After much buzz, The Hamilton is here and brings a unique twist of dining and live entertainment to DC! Just a few blocks away from The White House, the corner of 14th & F Streets, NW, has transformed from books and magazines to dinner and live bands. Formerly the home of Borders bookstore, this new hot spot opened its doors just a few weeks ago. I had to stop by after work to check out the atmosphere, drink selection, and the final product.
Owned by Clyde’s Restaurant Group, The Hamilton is huge and I could instantly see how this venue easily attracts crowds. It mirrors Clyde’s classic style with traditional wooden décor that houses three levels – including five bars, a dining room, a sushi bar, and a lower-level music hall for live performances.
What makes this place so distinctive is its variety. They’re open 24/7! Yes, around the clock. And whether you want to grab breakfast before heading into the office, have a drink and a quick bite at the bar, go out on a dinner date, or listen to their live entertainment, there’s something here for everyone’s desires. They even have free wifi! Just ask your server or bartender for the password.
With a dressier American fare, The Hamilton suggests a conventional atmosphere turned up a notch with background jazz ballads and warm conversation from bartenders with a Cheers type of style. The scene is identifiably Washington’s new mood, balancing eclecticism and sophistication.
I tried their wonderful grass-fed burger with lightly salted sweet potato fries and a tasty Blue Moon. They offer beer canned, bottled, and over twenty draft selections, including our own DC Brau The Public Pale Ale. They also serve limited production wines and an array of cocktails.
No happy hour scoop yet! Like many newly opened food havens, they’re working on it and will roll out the specials soon! When they’re announced, I’ll post the details on my blog.
The lower-level is a music hall that is open during performances only. Many local bands are on the calendar, as well as a few national acts and more to be announced. The Grandsons with The Sweater Set, Mavis Staples with Eric Scott, and the Brad Line Sextet are a few of the groups set to perform this month.
I love this new addition to the Clyde’s food family and I’m looking forward to their happy hour! The Hamilton is perfect for groups, dates, and even solo.
Check out their website for a listing of upcoming performances, menus and other information.
Add this to your list for this week!
